Trade-in program

Condition

We buy books in a variety of conditions, ranging from Excellent to Good. This means the books should be well cared for and have only minimal wear. Price stickers are okay, as they can usually be removed. Books that are too damaged will not be accepted for trade, but you're welcome to donate them to our free book pile.

What We Buy

We primarily buy fiction. Our best-selling categories are mystery and thrillers, romance, and children's books. We also accept other genres, including historical fiction, science fiction, young adult (YA), and general fiction. In addition, we carry a small selection of nonfiction, especially biographies and memoirs.

You're welcome to bring in almost any book, and we'll discuss which titles we can accept.

What We Don't Buy

We do not purchase books that are heavily damaged. This includes books with:

  • Missing dust jackets (hardcovers)
  • Heavily ripped or missing pages
  • Stains that cannot be removed
  • Loose or falling-apart bindings
  • Significant water damage or mold

When We Buy Books

You're welcome to bring books to any of our pop-up events. We can also schedule a convenient time for me to come to you or for you to bring your books to me.

During pop-up events, it may take some time for me to evaluate your books while also helping other customers. I appreciate your patience during busy events.

The Process

Trading books is simple!

  1. Bring in the books you'd like to trade.
  2. I'll review each book to determine its condition and whether it's a good fit for the store.
  3. Based on the condition, I'll calculate the amount of store credit you'll receive.
  4. I'll show you the value assigned to each accepted book.
  5. If you accept the offer, the store credit will be added to your account immediately. You can use it toward books or bookish accessories at Iris Book Trading Co.

If you decide not to accept the offer, you're welcome to take your books back. If there are books I can't accept but you'd like to donate, I'd be happy to add them to our donation pile. You're also welcome to donate all of your books instead of receiving store credit.

Our Trade-In Percentages

I believe in being transparent, so here's how our pricing works.

  • Excellent condition: We offer 20% of the MSRP in store credit.
  • Very Good condition: We offer 15% of the MSRP in store credit.
  • Good condition: We offer 10% of the MSRP in store credit.

How to Use Store Credit

When you're ready to check out, simply provide your name, phone number, or email address. I'll locate your account, and once I've rung up your books or bookish accessories, you'll have the option to apply your available store credit to your purchase.

Note: Store credit can only be used for Iris Book Trading Co branded products, including our large selection of used books and merch.

Do You Give Cash Instead of Store Credit?

At this time, we only offer store credit for trade-ins and do not provide cash payments.
